Maitre Renard Burgundy Chardonnay

Maitre Renard is Bernard Schurr’s introduction to Burgundy. The Maitre Renard Burgundy Chardonnay is modern and vibrant, with lemon acidity and only a hint of oak. Balance is key in this wine, which offers an affordable introduction to the region that was the birthplace of Chardonnay.

The Winemaker
Bernard Schurr’s first love was horses and he was a member of the French Equestrian team, attending the famed “Cadre Noir”. His love of all things equine is reflected in Maitre Renard - he sees many comparisons with the wily and elusive Fox of French lore and the difficulties in making Burgundy. Winemaking experience in Bordeaux and the South of France has provided Bernard with a broad perspective and he is approaching Burgundy from a different angle. Crafting innovative and affordable wines, he combines the strengths and characters of individual regions throughout Burgundy.
2008 Vintage
For the second year in a row extremely challenging conditions due to a wet summer were alleviated by a warm change and dry wines in late August. Harvest was slightly later than in 2007 and the overall result is a successful vintage - above average. Fruit intensity and acidity are somewhere between the rich 2006 and the fine 2007.
Tasting Notes
Delicate and “light on its feet” with fresh and pure stone fruit and citrus aromas. A burst of up - front white fruit flavours are supported by shimmering acidity and a long mineral backbone. Whilst this wine has the potential to develop with short term bottle maturation it is drinking beautifully now.
